Bulb Planting

If you are free this Friday morning (22nd November), join us from 10 am at The Vale to plant more snowdrops and crocuses. A few extra pairs of hands would be super helpful. Thank you and see you there!

In Case You Missed It

GGERA’s AGM was a roaring success. There was a full house at Carey Hall with our MP, Sarah Sackman, all our 5 councillors, our local police inspector, the Safer Neighbourhood Police Teams and Barnet Council officers attending.

In addition to the normal business of the AGM:

  • GGERA’s achievements were celebrated.
  • There was a Q&A session with our MP. See her thank you messages.
  • Our councillors, the police and a council officer provided updates.
  • The evening was rounded off with a wonderful dance show and masterclass by Angela and Dave.

Civic Awards were presented to local organisations and to residents for their outstanding contribution and devotion to our community:

  • Androulla Constantinou
  • Anika Bakirtzidis
  • Cecilia Soh
  • Claremont Free Church
  • Donoghue Campaign
  • Habib Saad

Thank You from our MP

Following the recent AGM, Sarah Sackman MP, wrote:

Thank you for having me at your meeting.

It was brilliant to meet and have the chance to speak to so many residents. What a show of community engagement, leadership and creativity.

Thank you very much for the book, for the fantastic wrapping paper, for the salsa lesson and above all all the work that you do year round to strengthen our community and support (and sometimes, rightly, challenge) the work of public bodies which serve our area.

GGERA is the epitome of the word community, where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to discuss the issues facing a neighbourhood. These serious discussion points are then woven in with joyful activities (including the brilliant salsa lessons) to make for an incredibly engaging event.

I am so proud to be your MP and look forward to working alongside the GGERA throughout my time in office.

GGERA’s Achievements

GGERA achievements over the years include:

  • Keeping the community informed with a regular free newsletter.
  • Strengthening relationships with our MP, Councillors, Council officers, the Police & neighbouring residents groups.
  • Successfully installing a no-entry enforcement camera, CCTV cameras & speed warning signs.
  • Sourcing funding, together with Our Yard at Clitterhouse, for rewilding and planters.
  • Various litter picks.
  • Bringing parking, pavements, regeneration, fly-tipping and antisocial behaviour issues to the attention of the Council, developers & the Police.
  • Campaigning for flower planters to block vehicular access at the Purbeck Drive entrance to Clitterhouse Park.
  • Objecting to Houses of Multiple Occupation and speculative development.
  • Improving road markings on our streets.
  • Spin offs: Memories Local History Group (currently dormant) & the Clitterhouse Farm Project now known and blooming as Our Yard at Clitterhouse.
  • The successful relocation of Donoghue!

These are small things, results of team work, that together have made a BIG difference to our lives!

Burglary Alert

Our local police SNT have warned us about an increased spike of domestic burglaries occurring throughout Barnet, Brent and Harrow (although Golders Green ward has not been affected yet).

The suspects involved, equipped with crowbars, have targeted homes during the hours of darkness whether the occupiers were present or not. When disturbed, the suspects promptly flee leaving damage to properties, mainly front doors.

The suspects involved consist of masked and gloved individuals described as of white heritage working in a group of as few as 2 to as many as 5. They primarily target jewellery, watches and cash.

They tend to use high value vehicles with cloned registration numbers.

Please stay alert.  For crime prevention advice visit this site.

Brent Cross Town Community Space

Lorna Gott, Head of Communications and Engagement (BXC Regeneration Programme), is asking for local residents’ opinions about Brent Cross Town’s new community space She says:

Barnet Council and Related Argent are asking residents to have their say on a new community space planned for Brent Cross Town. The feedback received will play an important role in helping to shape the services and activities provided there. They are also looking for your ideas for their future community events programme. Pick up a copy from Brent Cross Town’s Visitor Pavilion or find out more and access the survey here.
